Picture this: You’re minutes away from an important meeting, and your boss suddenly asks you to turn a 20-page PDF document into a presentation deck. Your heart sinks as you realize the enormity of the task ahead.

With such a tight deadline, you’re left with two options:

Option one: apologize profusely and face the consequences of not delivering what’s expected of you.

But what if there were another way? With the help of an AI-powered tool called Decktopus, you can convert that PDF into a presentation deck in just a matter of seconds.

What is Decktopus AI?

Decktopus has been around for a while now. It has 2 million users, and I have talked about it in one of my previous articles.

It is branded as the world’s number-one AI-powered presentation generator. It makes the presentation creation process very simple, saving users approximately 64% of the time typically required.

Yes, I use it myself, and I can personally attest to the time saved generating presentation decks.

Now, let’s talk about why it caught my attention.

Today, they dropped a new feature that allows you to upload a PDF file, and it instantly transforms the file into a presentation deck.

Transform A PDF Into Presentation

The first thing you need to do is sign into your Decktopus account.

Next, click on the “Create with AI” button and select “Import your PDF.”

Note that you cannot upload PDF files that are bigger than 5 MB.

For this demo, I will be uploading a PDF file about health and wellness.

In the next steps, you need to answer a series of questions for a more personalized presentation. For example, I set the target audience to health professionals and practitioners since the PDF file is about health and wellness.

Then specify the aim of the deck. In this example, the aim of the presentation is to highlight the importance of self-care for health professionals.

The final step is to select which template you want. The options are as follows:

  • Minimal
  • Elegant
  • Dark
  • Formal
  • Creative
  • Retro

After selecting the template, click the “Generate Presentation” button and wait for the AI to finish generating the presentation deck in the background.

It will take only a couple of seconds for Decktopus to generate the deck. Once done, you will be redirected to your dashboard, where you can find the newly generated presentation. Click on the “Let’s Start” button to start editing.

Here’s what our health and wellness example looks like:

The results were impressive. Overall, Decktopus created 38 slides, with each slide having comprehensive text and a relevant AI-generated image.

I just want to emphasize how well the image generator works. It considers the text element to make the whole slide more cohesive and informative.

Aside from the ability to customize the AI-generated content, you can also play around with visual enhancement tools like the “Design” and “Elements” tools.

In the Design tab, you can switch between templates and styles to adjust the overall look and aesthetics of your presentation.

In the Elements tab, you can add charts, tables, logos, etc. to add more helpful data and personalized elements to the presentation.

What makes Decktopus a really exciting tool to use is the feature called “AI Assistant,” which can generate mock Q&A. This is a perfect tool to engage your audience effortlessly and could also help you prepare for any possible questions that may be thrown at you.

As for the AI-generated tips, they are also pretty helpful. Let me share some of my favorites:

Confident Body Language: Maintain eye contact, use gestures purposefully, and stand tall to exude confidence and engage the audience effectively.

Clear Articulation: Speak clearly and at a moderate pace, ensuring that complex medical terms or concepts are explained in an understandable manner for all attendees.

Practical Examples: Illustrate preventive healthcare strategies with real-world cases and scenarios that resonate with the daily challenges faced by healthcare professionals.

Encouraging Participation: Create a supportive environment that encourages active involvement, questions, and contributions from the audience to enhance learning and knowledge sharing.

And finally, you can share your deck with the public by clicking on the share button at the upper portion of the dashboard and generating a public link. Here is the public link to the full deck presentation of my example in this article.

Other Features

Even though I have only talked about the PDF upload feature, it’s worth noting that Decktopus is also equipped with other incredible features:

  • AI Presenter Coach: Decktopus has a built-in presentation coach that gives you tips and tricks to improve your delivery.
  • Optimize Audience Interaction: The AI generates potential questions your audience might ask and guides you on how to answer them effectively. This feature helps you anticipate and prepare for audience interaction.
  • Shape Dynamic Scripts: The AI generates personalized notes for each slide, ensuring a seamless and impactful delivery.

Why Should You Care?

While it’s always best to fully understand the content of your PDF file and write your presentation deck yourself, there will be times when you need the help of AI assistants like Decktopus.

Of course, you’re free to create your presentation manually using others. However, the level of ease and quality of output that Decktopus offers can be a huge time-saver, especially when you’re working under tight deadlines.

As someone who frequently creates decks for work, I can attest to how much of a game-changer this tool can be in terms of saving time and effort.

Moreover, as AI technology continues to advance, this tool will only get better. Soon, their AI system may be smart enough to completely remove the parts where users need to intervene after uploading the PDF file.

It’s also worth noting that having alternatives to the bigger players like Google and Microsoft is always a good thing. Decktopus is a prime example of a company that’s taking on the giants and offering a valuable service to its users.

How Much Does It Cost?

Decktopus offers two pricing plans for its presentation tool: Pro and Business. Both plans are available on a monthly or annual basis.

Final Thoughts

After exploring the new PDF upload feature of Decktopus, I am impressed with the speed and quality of the generated presentation decks. Seriously, this PDF upload feature is going to save so many people so much time and headaches.

However, there are a few areas where I believe the engineers could make improvements to enhance the user experience even further:

  1. Increased PDF file size limit: Currently, Decktopus only supports PDF files up to 5MB, which can be quite limiting, especially for documents with images.
  2. Streamlined questionnaire: The part where I had to select the audience, the aim of the deck, and choose a template could be streamlined into a single-page questionnaire. This would make the user experience more efficient and less time-consuming, as users wouldn’t have to click through multiple pages to input their preferences.
  3. Support for additional file types: While the PDF upload feature is undeniably useful, expanding support to other common file types such as Word, Text, or Excel could greatly enhance the tool’s versatility.
  4. Improved images. Right now, I can guess that they are using Stable Diffusion to generate images. It would be better if they could upgrade the image models to more capable ones like Dall-E 3 or Imagen 2.0.

But hey, I don’t want to sound like I’m just complaining. At the end of the day, Decktopus is a seriously impressive tool that’s only going to get better with time. I’m excited to see what other cool features they come up with down the line.
