Generate high-quality anime images with Niji V6.
Great news for otakus and AI enthusiasts alike — Midjourney has dropped the latest version of its anime fine-tuned image model called Niji V6.
Niji is an anime-specific AI model with extensive knowledge of anime, styles, and aesthetics. It’s especially adept at creating dynamic and action-packed shots with an excellent focus on characters and composition.
While there’s not much information shared on the Discord and X announcement of the new Niji V6 model, here are some of the key improvements noted from the devlog:
Additionally, I noticed that Niji V6 can now render text directly on images — a huge upgrade in my opinion. Checkout some examples on the Text Rendering section of this article.
If you’re a paying Midjourney user, you can generate images privately. Head over to the Midjourney chatbot and type the keyword “/settings” to pull up the settings menu.
In the image model menu, select “Niji Model V6 [ALPHA]”.
Close the menu and leave the rest of the settings as default. You can now start creating your anime images.
Here are some of the example images under the niji-showcase
channel on Discord.

Prompt: fantasy mammal behemoth full body
One of the coolest new features in V6 is text rendering. Similar to the base model V6, you need to enclose the text you want to render in quotes.
Check out this examples with texts:
You can take your Niji V6 images to the next level by animating them with RunwayML. Here’s an example posted on X.
Okay, that’s about it. What do you think of the new Niji V6 model?
Overall, it’s fascinating to be living at this moment where generating super cool anime images is now possible in seconds.
The technology behind AI image generation tools like Niji is incredible, but the implications for human artists, especially manga and anime artists, are concerning. Tools like Niji could potentially overtake many of their jobs, and the art of hand-drawing such images becomes less valued.
However, I hope these tools are used thoughtfully as assistants to human creators rather than replacing them entirely. There is still irreplaceable value in human creativity, imagination, and skill. As with any new technology, it’s up to us to use AI responsibly and ethically for the benefit of all.
