It is now easier to share Artifacts with other users and even people without a Claude account.

While OpenAI has kept delaying its much-awaited features, Anthropic has been rolling out cool stuff for several weeks. The latest from Anthropic is a significant upgrade to Claude AI which allows its users to publish and share their Artifacts online.

It is now easier to share them with other users and even people without a Claude account.

What Are Claude Artifacts?

Claude Artifacts is a new feature introduced by Anthropic for their AI assistant alongside the release of the Claude 3.5 Sonnet model. This is something that not even ChatGPT or Gemini is capable of.

It displays substantial, standalone content Claude generates in response to user requests. These are not just text responses, but interactive and editable outputs that can include code snippets, documents, and interactive React components.

For example, let’s consider the creation of a simple calculator web application. A user can prompt Claude with:

In response, Claude AI not only provides the code for both the front end and the back end of the application but also offers an interactive interface for further customization.

This is, quite frankly, one of the most impressive features ever built into an AI chatbot.

Publishing Artifacts

Now, users can share their Claude-generated Artifacts online with a simple web link.

This means any Artifact created can be easily distributed to anyone, anywhere — a new level of collaboration and sharing previously impossible with AI-generated content.

For instance, I created this interactive pitch deck and I wanted my colleagues to see it for review.

Prompt: Create a presentation deck for a startup pitch, including slides for the company overview, market analysis, product features, business model, and financial projections. The presentation should have multiple slides that user can switch to next and previous slides by clicking the arrow keys.

All I need to do is click on the “Publish” button in the lower right corner of the screen. A modal screen will pop up, asking me to confirm that no personal or confidential information is included in the Artifact.

Publishing this Artifact will make it accessible to anyone on the internet. Your chat will remain private.
Be sure the Artifact you’re publishing doesn’t include any personal or confidential information.

Once I click “Publish & Copy Link,” the Artifact is published online, and I receive a link that I can share.

Additionally, if you decide you no longer want your Artifact to be public, you can unpublish it by clicking on the “Unpublish” button.

When you open a published Artifact, you’ll notice a warning screen informing you that you are viewing user-generated content.

You’re viewing a user-generated Artifact
Artifacts are user-generated experiences like online games and interactive dashboards made on Claude.ai. Use discretion when engaging with Artifacts, as they may contain unverified or potentially unsafe content that do not represent Anthropic’s views.

Remixing Artifacts

In addition to publishing, Claude AI also gives you the ability to remix Artifacts. At the bottom right corner, you’ll see a “Remix Artifact” button.

Clicking this button takes you to a Claude AI chat instance and instructs the chatbot to create variations of the original Artifact. Here’s the auto-generated response from the example above:

Prompt: Hi, Claude! Let’s explore some variations of this artifact. After you reproduce this artifact, can you suggest 3 ways we could remix it?

Note: Remixing an Artifact requires a Claude.ai account.

This feature opens up a world of possibilities for customization and personalization.

For example, an educator might find a pre-existing interactive quiz Artifact useful but want to tailor the questions to their specific curriculum. Similarly, a developer might remix a code snippet Artifact to add new functionalities or improve performance.

Final Thoughts

A few months ago, Anthropic was criticized for the degrading quality of Claude Opus's language model. However, with the latest release of Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Artifacts, Claude AI is currently the king of all AI chatbots available today.

While OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini have been the biggest players in recent years, the ability to create, publish, and remix interactive Artifacts gives Claude AI a distinct edge.

But despite Artifacts being a powerful new feature, there are clear limitations. The biggest of which is the message limit, where you basically have to be able to get the entire contents of the code for the Artifact within a single prompt. This restriction can be a significant hurdle for creating more complex or extensive projects.

The message character limit is definitely something Anthropic needs to work on if they want Artifacts to become a widely useful and usable tool beyond Claude’s immediate environment.
