Test GPT-4o for free with these five free tools and websites.
At this very moment, I am still mind-blown by the recently announced GPT-4o model from OpenAI. The voice assistant feature is incredibly impressive — the way it laughs, giggles, and sings makes Siri and Google Assistant seem primitive in comparison.
While the much-anticipated voice assistant feature is set to roll out over the next couple of weeks, the text and image capabilities are already publicly available for eager early users to experiment with. In this article, I will share five FREE ways for you to dive in and try the GPT-4o model yourself.
Oh, and in case you missed it, the “o” in GPT-4o stands for “omni,” representing the model’s incredible multimodality support for both inputs and outputs. It can process and generate text, audio, and images in real-time. How cool is that?
Head over to https://platform.openai.com/playground/ and log in with your OpenAI account.
Under the model selection list, choose the GPT-4o option and you can immediately start asking the AI.
Take note that while you get a $5 free credit on signup, you can always link a credit card to continue using the chatbot even after exhausting the free credit. GPT-4o costs a reasonable $5 per 1 million tokens, so a little goes a long way.
Another great option is Langsmith Playground. Simply go to https://smith.langchain.com/, create a free account, and navigate to the playground page.
Set the Provider to ChatOpenAI and select GPT-4o as the model type, and you’re good to go.
Langsmith offers three pricing tiers to cater to different user needs:
Poe is hands-down one of the best ways to try the new GPT-4o model for free. Just go to https://poe.com/ and create an account. In the dashboard, you’ll see the GPT-4o option right away. Select that and start chatting with the AI.
Poe gives you 10 free messages per day or 3,000 compute points.
What’s great about Poe is it supports the upload of images and documents, so you can test the multimodal capability of GPT-4o here.
You.com works in a very similar way to ChatGPT and Poe. First, go to https://you.com/, create an account, and begin typing your messages.
You can switch to GPT-4o by bringing up the model list like in the image below.
On a free plan, you’ll get 5 free premium queries which refresh daily.
Poe.com also offers a subscription-based service with two billing options: monthly and yearly. The monthly plan costs $20 per month, while the yearly plan is priced at $15 per month, offering a savings of $60 compared to the monthly plan over a year.
Some users were quick to create Google Colab notebooks to use GPT-4o and this notebook is one of those.
To be clear, this resource is not particularly free because it requires an OpenAI key. To get an OpenAI key, open this link and select the “create a new secret key” button.
If you’re already a paid subscriber to ChatGPT, you’ll have immediate access to the GPT-4o model without needing to use any of the options on this list. But for those who aren’t on the paid tier yet, these are free ways to test-drive the new model.
Okay, that’s about it. I hope you find this list helpful and if you know other websites that offer free access to GPT-4o, please let me know in the comments.
Since the API is already available, it is already possible to build your own applications that take advantage of the GPT-4o model. More platforms are also expected to support GPT-4o in the coming days.
