Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you have a photo for print or for ads and thought, “This could look better from a different angle” or “A different color palette would make this image really pop”? The easiest solution is often to edit the image in Photoshop yourself or hire an image editing expert to handle the image manipulation for you.

However, the manual process can take around 5 hours of editing time and costs anywhere from 10–20 USD per hour. But did you know that recent advancements in AI technology now allow you to edit an image however you want with just a few clicks and in a matter of seconds?

Freepik, a popular graphic design platform, has recently released an exciting new feature called Reimagine that lets you create infinite variations of an image in real time.

What is the Reimagine?

Reimagine is part of Freepik’s suite of Pikaso tools. It is a powerful AI-powered image-to-image tool that can generate an endless array of variations from an input image at an impressively fast, almost real-time speed.

You can upload pretty much any image you want, as long as it does not violate Freepik’s content policy. When you upload a subject with a human face, the AI does not preserve the original face and instead generates a completely different one to avoid potential privacy concerns.

Due to privacy concerns, Freepik does not preserve the face of the subject you upload. The AI will change the face and subjects of your image.

Take a look at this example:

Don’t worry, the input image on the left was AI-generated with Midjourney.

How to access the Reimagine feature

To get started, head over to Freepik’s homepage, and under the Tools tab, select the “Reimagine” feature. You will then be redirected to the Reimagine interface.

You will then be redirected to the Reimagine dashboard below.

The UI is quite intuitive and straightforward. You have the upload button conveniently located on the upper left side, or you can simply drag and drop your desired image onto the center drop zone.

How it works

To begin, upload any image you want to use as the basis for creating variations. For example, I wanted to produce different versions of this super cool-looking astronaut cat illustration.

The top left image is the original, and the rest are AI-generated variations. Pretty impressive, right? The resemblance to the original is uncanny while still providing notable creative variations in style, color, and more.

Once an image is uploaded, unique prompts are automatically generated which you can easily adjust by simply clicking on the underlined portions.

You also have the ability to fine-tune the image style and intensity to dial in your desired aesthetic. They have a lot of image styles available like Pixel art, Sketch, Vintage, and more.

Clicking on a generated image reveals even more options.

From this screen, you can download the image in standard size or opt for an enhanced upscaled version by clicking on the “HD” button.

There’s also an option to upscale, reimagine, or draw over the image with the “Sketch” feature. Even more editing controls are available when you click on the “Editor” button — this is honestly a powerful platform for all kinds of manual and AI image manipulation.

How much does it cost?

Freepik offers both free and premium subscription tiers, each with its own set of features and limitations to suit different needs and budgets.

Free users have a daily usage limit, which you can see on the usage counter in the top right corner of the screen. Plus, if you’re on a free account, you can generate up to 20 enhanced (high-quality) images of your drawings every day.

If you find yourself needing more than that, you might want to consider upgrading to a Premium account which costs around 16 USD. With Premium, you get unlimited usage, so you can create as much art as you want. Premium users can generate up to 4000 enhanced images per day.

Final Thoughts

I have to say, I’m impressed with Freepik’s new Reimagine tool. The speed is lightning-fast compared to other competitors which often take several seconds to generate high-resolution results.

One minor thing I hope Freepik would add is the option to disable auto-generation on scroll. While it’s great in terms of user experience, it can quickly eat up your credits if you’re on the free plan with a daily limit. The ability to toggle this would be a welcome addition.

If you do a lot of image editing for business or personal use, definitely give Freepik’s Reimagine a try. It might just revolutionize your workflow and open up a whole new realm of creative potential.
